Hooded Orioles

The Hooded Orioles (Icterus cucullatus) have arrived in Southern California, which is in their breeding range. We’ve heard their chatty sounds for a week or two around our backyard now and on Friday, I finally managed to get a good picture of the couple (albeit individually) as it was coming through for some nectar snacks. 🙂

I wish I would’ve gotten more photos of the female, but the male was far more visible. He was repeatedly coming out from the shrubs, sitting at the very top of a twig, taking his time looking around, while the female stayed more hidden, and moved very quickly. I find it an almost impossible challenge to track a bird that flies off, with a long telephoto lens.
